Winter is the perfect time for a gathering of fly fishing families to gather.

The Annual Oklahoma Fly Fishers Extravaganza has been an event that Davy and I have enjoyed participating in for three consecutive years.

If you are in the area, come by and see us at our table; we will be tying and have items available for purchase.

Additionally there will be other vendors, tyers and guest speakers scheduled throughout the day.

The information for this can be found on this flyer.

See you there!

Davy Wotton at the vise with a bit of company from his little Jack Russell he calls, Siana.

My first introduction to the art of fly tying was in the 1960s. At that time l was given the materials and tying tools that belonged to one of my school masters. Thus began my passion for fly tying and its relationship to fishing and catching fish. In the 1960s l began to tie flies commercially, at that time very much the old school of thought still existed so far as fly patterns were concerned. This factor alone allowed me to gain a great deal of knowledge and skill to reproduce the traditional flies.

New ways of thinking and the introduction of synthetic materials leaned me into the new era of developing new fly tying techniques and innovate new fly patterns. Many of my fly patterns are commercially produced by the world’s major producers of fishing flies. Since the early 1970s l have contributed and had published a good 100 articles and features for both fly fishing magazines and books all over the world, related to fly tying techniques and the introduction of new fly patterns. So too l have been featured on many TV shows, produced fly tying videos, and travel country at the request of fly fishing organizations to demonstrate my tying skills.

Free for DRiFT Members…Non-members $5.00 admission.

Public Announcement:

Hello Everyone,

The AGFC Trout Management Program will be hosting a general public meeting on Thursday August 13th, 2015  to discuss the current status of the Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters.  The meeting will be from 6:00-8:00 PM in the McMullin Lecture Room, Dryer Hall, on the Arkansas State University campus in Mountain Home.  I  will be giving a presentation about data collected during recent years and discuss upcoming projects planned for the rivers. We’ll also discuss recently completed projects.  There will be plenty of time for questions at the end of the meeting. Multiple representatives from AGFC will be in attendance, including our new Chief of Fisheries, Chris Racey.

We look forward to providing you all with this information and hope you will be able to attend. Feel free to send to other interested parties.

Please share with anyone that you believe to be of interest in this event.

For as long as I have been aware this event has been held in March, but has had to be changed for the 2016 venue.
April can be quite busy with tourism accommodation so start getting your reservation made if you plan to attend.

From Sowbug Roundup Committee:

Bad news / good news.
The only available dates for 2016 for Sowbug were in either February or April.
We chose the April date.
While we were making those changes, we confirmed the next five years!

Please pass the word to anyone who might not catch this message. A lot of people made reservations at motels and campgrounds based on the dates we had given them.

The new dates are:
2016 – April 14,15,16
2017 – March 23, 24, 25
2018 – March 22, 23, 24.
2019 – March 28, 29, 30
2020 – March 26, 27, 28

If anyone needs local help in changing reservations, would be happy to help.
